Luscious Adidas
Sportswear company formed in 1948 by German athlete Alfred “Adi” Dassler (b. 1901; d. 1978). Adidas’s trademark triple-striped track-and-field gear was much prized among American high school students throughout the ’70s; in 1983 rappers Run-D.M.C. hymned the company’s shell-toed sneakers in “My Adidas.”
The street popularity of Adidas faded as newer, more aggressive and innovative companies like Nike and Reebok dominated the sportswear market.
