His and Her review about the Movie – Autumn in New York

Published By on August 13, 2011

SYNOPSIS:

Will Keane, (Richard Gere), is a womanizer and successful businessman. His playboy antics have allowed him the experience of many women but no love, until one day when he meets Charlotte Fielding (Winona Ryder). A bond soon forms between the two and he informs her that their relationship will not be able to last forever because of his own problems. She agrees that it won’t last forever because of another reason: she’s dying.

HIS REVIEW:

Autumn in New York is a touching romantic drama that will bring a few tears to many eyes in the theater.

This new chick movie’s plot is the normal overly-done plot like most chick flicks of boy meets girl….you know the rest. Autumn in New York doesn’t open up any new ground in the way of movies, but the acting from both Ryder and Gere is done very well. Their relationship on the screen doesn’t seem shallow, but rather a tad deeper than many other movies might have between their lead romantics. There are a number of good one-liners and funny moments spread throughout especially from Ryder whose look of innocence had a few ladies in our audience whispering, “She’s so cute!”

Guys, you honestly might have a hard time sitting through this, but your date should like this movie very much so just bare with it. Think about sports, politics, anything that might help you sit through this slow-paced movie. But about halfway through, go ahead and try to get involved. It really isn’t that bad of a movie if you look beyond the fact that it’s a normal chick flick.

Overall a decent date movie that should be bearable for the guys and the ladies will enjoy.

HER REVIEW:

The first thing that has got to be said is be prepared for a very long movie in a short amount of time. The movie, an hour and 45 minute film, feels like it is about 3 hours. This would be considered as most men would put it, a big ol’ chick flick. This movie is definitely not for guys, unless the women drag them to it. If you have read similar reviews from us, you know that X-Men was one of those movies that the guys were going to drag their dates too, well this movie, Autumn in New York, is one of those movies for women.

As a date movie, I guess it is pretty good. You have some sensuality in there between Gere and Ryder’s characters, and you have the boy loses girl, boy gets girl back theme, that in the end, ends tragically–like that isn’t predictable. The one thing that I really didn’t like about it, was the time in which it got to the climax of the film.

The best part of the film has got to be the last 15-30 min. Don’t think that I am morbid, but when we find out that it could end tragically, is when the movie actually gets involved with love, passion, and “do all that you can to save the heroine” theme.

Overall, an ok movie that could have been better if it had flowed together better and if the first hour was better. I personally wait until it comes out on video, but if you are in the mood for romance, and just have to see it, then this could be your movie.
