From Miss World 1994 to the steamy hot actress of Bollywood that she is today, Aishwarya Rai has made a beautiful transition. There’s something I have to tell you about Aishwarya.
It has nothing to do with her appearance but…But when you start to talk about Aishwarya, her looks get in the way.
She caused acute shortness of breath on a national scale when she sashayed into a Pepsi commercial in 1993.When Aamir Khan gulped in the cola in that commercial; he was gulping on behalf of 400 million men. In 30 short seconds, a supermodel was born.
Aishwarya never said she is a supermodel. People did. She never claimed she would be Miss India or Miss World. People knew she would. And she did!
What does “Aish” have to tell us about how she has carried all the adulations, heartbreaks and mass expectations so adroitly in the last seven years?
1. Focus with determination.
I try my best at whatever I am given to do, with focus and determination.
2. Stay calm and composed.
I am not swayed by criticism or adulation, and take up anything new with a refreshed attitude.
3. Sleep well.
I make myself very busy, so where is the time to get tense or stressed? I feel a good and restful sleep is a much better stress reliever.
4. Have confidence in what you can do.
One must know what one can do. However, once you know your limitations, you should not compromise on efforts.
5. Neither failure nor success is everlasting.
Just as one cannot be successful all the time, one does not fail all the time too. Stress comes from over-anxiety when things are not going favorably your way.
After she became the new Miss World and decided to try her luck in movies, people were quite skeptical about her acting skills. A wide variety of things were written about her but she remained adamant and brushed off the doubts people had about her. It was director Rahul Rawail who gave her the first break in Aur Pyar Ho Gaya opposite Bobby Deol.
There was a flicker of hope in Rishi Kapoor’s Aa Ab Laut
Chale against Akshaye Khanna. This movie in fact was able to revive her career to some extent. She even was appreciated at her attempts in acting.
But as luck would have it, ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam secured for her the top berth in Bollywood. Then Rajiv Menon’s much-talked-about Kandukondain Kandukondain happened, followed by Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, a potential winner. Way to go, baby!
ACHIEVEMENTS
The national award seems to be the only big one she’s missed all year (1999-2000). Beginning with Screen-Videocon, Aishwarya Rai has walked away with all the leading awards for her performance in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam(HDDCS), so much that it was almost a foregone conclusion that she’d win the National too.
Scribes who wrote her off as stiff, wooden, an ice maiden changed tune when Taal and HDDCS re-launched Aish. Now for her next big challenge, the elusive national crown. Her Tamil film, Kandukondain Kandukondain and Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai have been the talk of the chatterati. Aish’s future releases will play her displaying her histrionics in a wide variety of roles. These include playing Big Daddy, Amitabh’s daughter in Yash Chopra’s Mohabbatein, Small B Abhishek’s current flame in Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, and Hrithik’s heartthrob in a forthcoming Tanuja Chandra movie. Wait for another 12 months to be precise, and you will find Aishwarya touch the zenith of success.
