Smart substitutions

Another useful thing I learnt is how to substitute high calorie items with healthy, low calorie items.

Today, I went through the online motivational sessions. These are pretty interesting. After that, I ended up on a page with pictures of standard fast food fare. A double cheese burger, a can of coke, fries, Cole slaw and an apple pie. So common that we are often immune to it.

  • Then as you move your mouse over each item, it changes to a healthier item. A burger could be replaced with a turkey sandwich with loads of greens between 2 slices of wholemeal bread.
  • That coke can be replaced by iced lemon tea
  •  Those fries can be replaced with salsa and  tortilla chips.
  •  That Cole slaw can be replaced with a green salad
  •  That apple pie can be replaced with yummy yoghurt and fresh fruit.

Starting on the zone diet

I have been off my diet for almost half a year. First it was a prolonged flu, then a series of other excuses.  When I got on the scale again, I had a fright of my life. I had gained 7 kg! I’m too embarrassed to post my weight here though. Time to drive test the zone diet.

What is the zone diet?

The zone diet classifies your food into 3 types of blocks.

  •     The carbohydrate block,
  •     the protein block and
  •     the fat block.

Each type of food is classified as either

The Kneipp-Kur Anti-Cellulite Ten-Minute Regimen

A balanced daily routine is the key to a sustained improvement in the appearance of the skin. Making small changes and taking a few minutes a day to exercise can equate to surprisingly big results. Kneipp offers fast and easy tips to create a huge improvement in the look of the skin and to enhance mental well-being:

1. Turn your morning shower into an active cellulite treatment regime:

• Use Kneipp Grape Seed Oil Exfoliating Body Scrub to smooth and prime the skin for treatment.
• While the skin is still warm, ideally after a shower or bath, rinse the thighs with cold water. This is refreshing for the body and mind, firms the skin and strengthens the immune system. Beginning with the right leg, run a mild jet of cold water, approximately 65°F-72°F, slowly along the back of the leg from foot to hip and back again. Repeat this along the front and then the inside of the leg and repeat with the left leg.

Update Your Look For the New Year – 2012

Stuck in a rut?  Here are some quick guidelines to help update your look!

Update Your Makeup Drawer!

I know, we all love to hold on to our makeup forever, but it’s not made to last that long! Toss any makeup or skincare that has changed color, consistency or smells funny. Replace your mascara if you’ve had it longer than three months. Wash, condition and re-shape your makeup brushes.

Whip Your Skin Into Shape!

Winter weather conditions can tend to be harsh on the skin, causing it to be dehydrated and flaky. Find a gentle exfoliant to slough off dry, dead skin. A gentle scrub or AHA treatment
